Supported Laptop Models


Samples from the following laptop families/models were physically tested by us as being able to boot and run the OSWA-Assistant™ LiveCD or LiveUSB environment. If your laptop has the same chipsets and CDROMs as these, then it is likely also to be able to boot and run:

(Important note #2: all laptop hardware mentioned here refers to the LAPTOP-ONLY, and NOT the wireless adapter! For supported wireless adapters, please read the "Supported Wireless Chipsets" section below!)

Supported Wireless Chipsets


Presently, many 802.11-based chipsets that are commonly found on retail shelves in Asia (where we operate) are supported. Specifically, these are the following:

• Atheros (driver: MADwifi-ng ver 0.9.3.1; PCI, MiniPCI & PCMCIA only; AR5007 and AR5008 not currently supported)
• Prism54 (driver: prism54 FULLMAC; PCMCIA only)
• Realtek RTL8187 (driver: Realtek)
• Ralink RT2500 (driver: Serialmonkey)
• Ralink RT2570 (driver: Serialmonkey)
• Ralink RT61 (driver: Serialmonkey)
• Ralink RT73 (driver: Serialmonkey)
• Intel ProWireless 2200/2915 (driver: IPW2200/2915)
• Intel ProWireless 3945 (driver: ASPj IPWRAW)

Also, while not a hardware-native driver, the LORCON abstraction package is also installed to provide support for apps that use it, such as Probemapper.

For those who need even more detailed information, the following list is a non-exhaustive summary of some wireless hardware available off-the-shelf in Singapore that we've physically seen with our own eyes to work with some or all of the relevant software in the toolkit depending on their functionality (Modes).
